Why am I doing this?

People who know me know that I love to run (and sometimes swim and bike too!). With a new season of races coming up and a host of new year resolutions in my mind, I reflected on the fact that most of my friends think I'm mental for actually enjoying putting myself through all the training and races I sign up for.

So I thought - why not try and leverage this insanity and raise some money for a good cause? The charity I've decided to support is called Moving Mountains. I know some of the protagonists involved with this charity personally - and I can vouch for the difference their efforts make. So I thought I'd like to add my own little efforts to their worthy cause.

Thank you for your support!

Saturday May 23 2009 - Kilcock Triathlon Race Report

Went to this race today with intentions of practising my transitions - pedals in the bike - the works. But the heavy rain put paid to my enthusiasm as I lost a bit of spirit and just wanted to get it over with by start time. I had intended to enter the draft legal race but my lack of drop bars ended that.

Once in the water the sun was out and I felt relaxed enough - despite the gloomy water and strange smell. Once we started I suppose I felt better than I've ever done in a wetsuit - still though - given that it was only 500m I was far too tired given my level of swimming in the pool. Maybe I need a better fitting wetsuit??

Into transition and the wetsuit came off easily enough - though I should have been faster onto the bike. I lashed off on the bike - no calf cramps this time! Two laps to Maynooth and back - the route back was very windy but by this stage it was bright and sunny. I made up a bit of ground here.

Back to T2 and I couldn't find my runners - this is ridiculous now. Am certainly practising transitions this week. Onto the run and at the start my knee started to groan and I was worried - but once that settled down I started to push - though I could probably have pushed harder.

Got to the end feeling a bit deflated - didn't feel like I did myself justice - but then again it was really a warmer upper for next week.

Swim: 11:26
T1: 2:08
Bike: 34:45
T2: 1:36
Run: 18:45
Overall: 1:05:27
